The General Surgery Residency Training Program provides basic and advanced surgical experience for those seeking a career in general surgery as well as for those who plan to undertake further training in a surgical specialty.

UPMC Mercy General Surgery

Program Director: Kurt R. Stahlfeld, MD

The General Surgery Residency Program at UPMC Mercy offers residents a 5-year hybrid model of surgical education. We pride ourselves on developing exceptional clinical surgeons via our close-knit and collegial program based at UPMC Mercy - a tertiary referral center which is also the only combined Level 1 trauma and burn center in western Pennsylvania.

UPMC Horizon General Surgery

Program Director: Jon Henwood, DO, FACOS

The UPMC Horizon general surgery residency program was approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in 1973, making it one of the oldest Osteopathic residency training programs in the country. 

Vascular Surgery

Program Director: Rabih A. Chaer, MD

The Vascular Surgery Residency Program is designed to train well-rounded vascular specialists with expertise in clinical and academic vascular care, providing exposure to cutting edge evolving new technologies and research.
