On April 19, 2023 we held our 21st Annual Research Day and Richard L. Simmons Lecture in Surgical Science. Attendees were treated to an outstanding presentation, "Leading the Way: Applying American Surgical Leadership Principles to Improve Health Care for All" by this years’ Richard L. Simmons lecturer, Dean Adil Haider from Aga Khan University Medical College .

The paper “Clinical Outcomes and Hospital Utilization Among Patients Undergoing Bariatric Surgery With Telemedicine Preoperative Care” by Callie Hlavin, MD, Phoebe Ingraham, and Tamara Byrd, MD was published in JAMA Network Open (journal impact factor: ~13). The authors stress the importance of telemedicine providing more accessibility and flexibility to patients receiving preoperative care for bariatric surgery.
The paper “Gut adaptation after gastric bypass in humans reveals metabolically significant shift in fuel metabolism” by Margaret A. Stefater-Richards, MD, and co-authors, who include our faculty and staff members Dr. Anita Courcoulas, William Gourash, and Eleanor Shirley, was chosen as an Editor's Choice for the January 2023 issue of Obesity.
