Dr. Bowen Xie Receives AVF-BSCI Translational Research Grant

Congratulations to our PGY-4 vascular surgery resident, Bowen Xie, MD, who received the 2022 American Venous Forum-Boston Scientific Translational Research Grant for his proposal, “Inflammatory Cytokine Signaling and Cell-Mediated Immune Response Exacerbates Progression of CVD.” The grant provides $85,000 over two years in research support.

 

Dr. Amanda Phillips Receives VESS Resident Research Award

Congratulations to our PGY-4 vascular surgery resident Amanda Phillips, MD, who received the 2022 Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society (VESS) Resident Research Award for her proposal, “Improving follow‐up after EVAR.” The award provides $12,500 in research support for the coming year.

Pittsburgh Action News 4, ABC News, and Good Morning America spotlighted the touching story of how a group of caring clinicians at UPMC McKeesport, including our Vascular Surgery team members Fanny S. Alie-Cusson, MD, and Carol L. Madia, PA-C, helped their patient Mack Simmons overcome homelessness and brought a Thanksgiving meal to him in his new home.

2021 Vascular Surgery Teaching Awards

Congratulations to the 2021 winners of our Vascular Surgery division’s 2021 teaching awards. Faculty member Raymond Eid, MD, received the Henry T. Bahnson, MD Teacher of the Year Award and residents Catherine Go, MD, and Bowen Xie, MD, tied to both receive the David L. Steed, MD Excellence in Teaching Award. The winners were recognized for their accomplishments during the Vascular Surgery graduation ceremony on June 25, 2021 and received plaques to commemorate their honors. Drs. Go and Xie will also each receive a check for $500.

 

Dr. Eric Hager Wins UPSOM Clerkship Preceptor of the Year Award

Congratulations to Eric S. Hager, MD, who received the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) Clerkship Preceptor of the Year Award at the school’s virtual Curriculum Colloquium on February 11, 2020. This award recognizes faculty clinical preceptors who consistently provide outstanding clinical instruction in the clerkship setting for UPSOM medical students.
