The Department of Surgery’s residency and fellowship programs are among the most elite in the country and strive to train future leaders in academic surgery.
Core Residency Programs
The department’s core residencies are comprised of three general surgery programs (one based at UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Mercy and UPMC Horizon) and an integrated vascular surgery residency.
Fellowship Programs
The department hosts several fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), including an independent vascular surgery training program, as well as fellowships in surgical oncology, surgical critical care, pediatric surgery, and pediatric critical care. Non-ACGME training programs include fellowships in transplantation surgery, acute care surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, and minimally invasive/metabolic surgery.
