Abrupt Encounters with Kinetic Energy, Please Handle with Care: Diaphragm Injuries and High-grade Liver Trauma

Date

June 8, 2021 - 9:00am

Event Description

Presenter: Dr. Rafa Ramos-Jimenez (advisors: Dr. Graciela Bauzá, Amit Tevar, and Matthew Rosengart)

Discussion will focus on two clinical projects. The first explores the association between rib fractures and diaphragmatic injuries. For this project, the group examined all blunt diaphragmatic injuries seen by the UPMC Trauma Service from 2010-2020 and tested the association between rib fracture patterns, need for rib fixation, and diaphragmatic injuries. The second study compares operative versus non-operative management of high-grade (AAST grade 4 and 5) liver injuries at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital from 2010-2020.
