Characterization of the Underlying Biology of Surgical Diseases: Proteomic and Genomic Methodologies

Date

September 14, 2021 - 9:00am

Event Description

Presenter: Dr. Shimena Li (Advisors: Drs. Linwah Yip & Jason Sperry)

Dr. Li will discuss projects employing proteomic and genomic methodologies to characterize and reveal components of the underlying biology of trauma and medullary thyroid cancer. While these two diseases are quite distinct, she hopes to show that these novel technologies can be used across a broad spectrum of disease to further our understanding of the molecular and genomic changes contributing to these processes. Hopefully, with the use of this methodology she will start to make some links between our findings in the clinical and basic science arenas to provide a biological explanation for our clinical observations and treatment algorithms.
