- Surgeons use a variety of post-thyroidectomy supplementation strategies to prevent hypocalcemia, but there is a paucity of data on which strategy is superior. Dr. Nicholson will show the results of a cost-effectiveness analysis that suggests that it is the actual supplementation that is important, not necessary the mode or medium by which it is accomplished , as long as you do supplement.
- The AJCC 8th edition staging system for thyroid cancer shows improved ability to predict thyroid cancer survival relative to the 7th editiom. Dr. Nicholsons will highlight her data comparing the The AJCC 8th edition staging system for thyroid cancer with the 7th edition to predict papillary thyroid cancer recurrence in a multivariable model.
- Extended VTE prophylaxis after orthopedic surgery has become commonplace. We demonstrate that extended, post-discharge VTE prophylaxis may be cost-effective in trauma patients as well.
