While mortality in papillary thyroid cancer is extremely low, predicting patients in whom it will recur is of significant interest. The American Joint Committee on Cancer recently made changes to its staging system based on updated data regarding predictors of mortality in differentiated thyroid cancer, in this study we examine how those changes affect the ability of the staging system to predict papillary thyroid cancer recurrence.
Illness due to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has changed the landscape of our everyday lives and medical practice. While anecdotal advice abounds, the little evidence available to guide clinical practice is new and in evolution. Here, Dr. Nicholson reviews the current evidence regarding surgery in COVID-19 and her group's efforts to contribute to the body of evidence on the implications of COVID-19 for surgical practice.
