Platelet Biology, Nanotech and Venous Thrombosis: How it Started and How it’s Going

Presenter: Jurgis Alvikas (Advisor: Dr. Matthew Neal)

In his final research talk as a lab resident, Dr. Alvikas will discuss the past, ongoing and future projects that he has had the opportunity to participate in during his research time. The topics he will cover will range from platelet transfusion and platelet function testing in TBI, platelet mitochondrial function following trauma, innate immune mechanisms involved in venous thrombosis, and cutting-edge nanotechnology he has been employing for improving hemostasis and for targeted drug delivery. Finally, he will share his plans for transition out of the lab, thoughts on research in fellowship and future career development as a physician scientist.
