Congratulations to Kevin P. Mollen, MD, who will receive funding from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) to conduct his research project “Mitonuclear Communication During the Pathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).” The broad goal of his project is to determine how mitochondrial dysfunction in the intestinal epithelium contributes to IBD pathogenesis and investigate whether reversing or preventing mitochondrial dysfunction can improve outcomes. Successful completion of work will frame the causes and consequences of mitochondrial dysfunction during IBD, offering the opportunity to improve disease outcomes by mitigating ongoing inflammation.
