Principal investigator Linwah Yip, MD and researchers from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine will conduct the first-ever clinical trial on a genetic test they developed that could spare patients with nonaggressive thyroid cancer from complete thyroid removal. This thyroid-preserving surgery lessens surgical complications and could help patients avoid taking daily medications to stabilize thyroid hormone levels. This work was featured in an in-depth UPMC press release as well as an article published in the February 9, 2017 issue of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
