Congratulations to the following members of our department who were presented with awards at our annual Harbison Dinner/General Surgery Residency Graduation on June 21, 2019:
David Medich, MD was given the 2019 Henry T. Bahnson Teaching Award. The award is given to a Department of Surgery faculty member who has had the greatest impact upon the residents as a teacher and as a role model. |

Matthew Rosengart, MD won the 2019 Simmons Mentorship Award. The award is given to a general surgery faculty member who, by vote of the graduating chief residents, has served as the most influential role model, both clinically and in research, during their training. |

Christine Leeper, MD received the 2019 Doris Maxwell Award for Research. This award is given to a graduating chief general surgery resident who demonstrates special excellence in surgical research |
At the Harbison dinner, our department chair Timothy R. Billiar, MD also mentioned the following teaching awards our residents received at other ceremonies held by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine:
Sidrah Khan, MD and Dirk van der Windt, MD received the 2019 Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching - "Little Apple" Award. By vote of the third-year medical school class, this award recognizes outstanding residents and interns with whom they worked during their third-year clinical rotations who demonstrated excellence in student teaching, team leadership, fund of knowledge, compassionate and humanistic patient care, and service as a mentor and role model. Sidrah also won this award last year. |

Rafael Ramos, MD won the 2019 Charles C. Moore Teaching Award. By vote of the graduating medical school class, this award is given to a member of the surgical house staff adjudged the most able surgical teacher. Rafael also won the award last year. |
