Why I Chose the UPMC General Surgery Residency Program

I felt that Pittsburgh was uniquely suited to nurture two of my greatest passions, surgery and bench research. This department has an unrivaled  history of mentoring many brilliant surgeons and surgeon-investigators who have gone on to push the boundaries of medicine. Moreover, Pittsburgh is a delightfully unique and livable city! Its history is rooted in industry, culture, and philanthropy and its present in artificial intelligence, healthcare and finance. I continue to feel awe-struck and inspired when I look at Cathedral of Learning and Walking to the Sky during walks with my dog in Oakland’s beautiful campuses. It is an honor to be a part of this program.

Non-Academic Accomplishments

I continue to find the simple act of driving joyful and very liberating, and love to go on cross-country road trips with my dog. I also like learning new words and knowing the stories behind how they originate and get assimilated in different cultures. I am also a huge fan of brutalism, minimalism and consequently, Apple’s industrial design. I have considerable difficulty letting go off my defunct Apple devices and empty Apple boxes.
