Hometown: Beirut, Lebanon
Why I Chose the University of Pittsburgh: I chose UPMC because it offers an unrivaled clinical training across all surgical sub-specialties, and in diverse settings across its multiple training sites. The surgery department has a strong academic reputation and leads the nation in research funding. The residents and faculty are very supportive and welcoming and love being at UPMC.
Non-Academic Accomplishments: I enjoy racket sports: squash, tennis, and table tennis. I have discovered a new hobby since I moved to the US in 2020, biking. It helps me balance the stress of work while exploring the city and spending time outdoors. Although Pittsburgh is quite hilly, it has several flat trails that are simply breathtaking. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Schenley Park are my favorites.
