"As a former Pitt Med student, I had an incredible experience with everyone from residents to attendings to staff. From top to bottom, seniors always found moments to teach new skills or help refine concepts – teaching is culturally a passion here, not a chore. I also saw the genuine friendships and respect amidst general surgery residents at all levels, and across other specialties as well. On the interview trail, I tried my best to look at the program objectively, and the incredible clinical training and research opportunities were still second-to-none.
I grew up as a goalkeeper for soccer, and I still play in pickup or intramural leagues when I can. I love singing and music (shout out Pitt Med’s a cappella group, the PalPittations!), so I will always find time to see concerts or performances during residency. I’m also passionate about language equity, currently working towards my formal certification in medical Spanish translation."
