Dr. Michel Makaroun has played a transformative role in vascular surgery through his pioneering contributions to endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), advancing minimally invasive treatment options for aortic disease and helping introduce innovative technologies into clinical practice around the world. At the University of Pittsburgh, he established one of the nation's premier vascular surgery programs and mentored more than 70 vascular surgeons, many of whom have become leaders in the specialty. A renowned researcher, educator, and former president of six major vascular organizations, Dr. Makaroun has made enduring contributions to patient care, surgical education, and the evolution of vascular surgery.
