Norman Wolmark, MD, a prominent surgeon and cancer researcher, will be joining the department as Professor of Surgery in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In addition, he will serve in a new position at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center as Director of National Cancer Institute Cooperative Group Clinical Trials. He will retain his role as Chairman of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project and as contact principal investigator of NRG Oncology.
During his long and impressive tenure as a cancer researcher, Dr. Wolmark has authored more than 400 scientific journal articles and book chapters and is a widely sought-after speaker and lecturer in his field. Previously, he conducted early clinical trials research at Pitt with Bernard Fisher, MD, University of Pittsburgh Distinguished Service Professor of Surgery. Dr. Wolmark left the University in 1993 to become director of the Allegheny Cancer Center and Director of Surgical Oncology at Allegheny General Hospital. His most recent position at Allegheny Health Network was Medical Director of Breast Surgical Oncology, Cancer Research, and Clinical Trials.
