The article “UPMC targets disparities in breast cancer care” calls attention to efforts in Pittsburgh to address the problem of cancer care disparities for African Americans. Steven Evans, MD, a surgical oncologist in our department, discusses the issues surrounding this problem in the article. Dr. Evans is Vice President of the Gateway Medical Society, a community organization dedicated to combating social and ethnic disparities in healthcare.
