Islet Transplantation from Pigs, Self, and Allogeneic Embryonic Stem Cells

Presenter: Dr. Martin Wijkstrom

Dr. Wijkstrom's research has been focused on preclinical development of xenotransplantation, mostly in islet and kidney models using cells and organs from genetically engineered pigs. His clinical interest is optimizing care for patients undergoing total pancreatectomy and islet autotransplantation. Other interests include assessing the impact of cold ischemia on short-term and long-term kidney allograft survival.

The Role of Inflammatory Caspases in MuSC Myogenicity in PAD

Presenter: Dr. Ricardo Ferrari

Dr. Ferrari’s major field of expertise is regenerative medicine and clinical translational research which involves muscle (stem) satellite cells and muscle regeneration in patients that suffer with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). His main project has focused on specific markers of inflammasome activity that might affect MuSC myogenicity in PAD.

Rational framework for the design of Cationic Peptide Therapeutics Against Multidrug-Resistant Pathogens

Presenter: Dr. Berthony Deslouches

Dr. Deslouches' laboratory focuses on structure-function studies for the design of anti-infective cationic peptide therapeutics, including antimicrobials, as well as on mechanism of action of these antimicrobials. Currently, the lab is focusing on antibacterial properties of these peptides, although their application extends to the potential for antiviral, antifungal, and antitumor properties.
